Libations, Legends & Lore — The Sam Locke Story

October 20 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Join us for this Halloween-themed evening at Leiper’s Fork Distillery! Start your evening off right with a cocktail class where you will learn to create a signature cocktail using our spirits. After the class, we will retire to our fire-lit courtyard to listen to a story from the sordid past of Leiper’s Fork and Williamson County told by one of our talented tour guides. Once we have scared you with our local legends, you will be able to join us for a candle-lit tour of our distillery.

The Sam Locke StoryMurder and Moonshine

Sam Locke was a life-long resident of this area, growing up in Hillsboro/Leiper’s Fork and later raising a family in the nearby community of Grassland.  He knew this community well.  Legally Tennessee was dry due to Prohibition beginning in 1910, by this time, the America is legally dry; however, moonshiners are in their “hay-day”. Local and Federal Government was trying to abide by the laws of Prohibition, but that wasn’t going to be easy and this area was no exception. Sam Locke took a position as a deputy and enthusiastically began arresting and busting up moonshiners. Everyone didn’t share his enthusiasm in keeping with the law, so he resigned as a deputy. However, when you live in a town with a known Whiskey Ring, you can cross the wrong people and their can be deathly consequences.  Come here about Sam Locke’s life when whiskey is involved on both sides, you will be awed by this true “wild west” story of the early 1920’s.  Prior to learning of Sam Locke, learn how to craft a Pickle-tini and then enjoy a candlelit tour of our distillery.
